Medical examiners from the Instituto de Medicina Legal (IML) has recommended that ex-President Alberto Fujimori not be transfer from his prison because of his delicate condition.
Fujimori was called to testify in the Vladimiro Montesinos case where he stands trial at the Naval Base in Callao for embezzlement, gunrunning and drug trafficking. If Fujimori were to testify, he would have transfer to the Navel Base which, medics say, the trip alone would cause much stress and hypertension. He also suffers from gastritis.
However, it is possible Montesinos' case could take place at the Dirección Operaciones Especiales (DIROES), where Fujimori is imprisoned, so he can give his testimony. Officials say they will respect his health conditions if this were to happen.
A second opinion from medics at the Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplásicas (INEN) confirmed Fujimori’s condition, adding that he should not be seated for more than 90 minutes with rests between 15 to 20 minutes. They recommend Fujimori be on this routine for the next four weeks until another health review is issued.
