Peru Has Clear Commitment with APEC Goals, says Garcia

Peru has a clear commitment with the objectives and ideals of the APEC Summit said Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez when he began the First APEC Leaders Retreat.

“I welcome you all today to the latest APEC leaders meeting and I thank you for coming on behalf of the People of Peru.”

At the beginning of the affair the President paid homage to the founders of the APEC Summit for their clear vision of the world’s economic fate.

The APEC Leaders retreat began at 1 p.m. at the Ministry of the Defense’s Bolognesi Hall.

The long list of participants includes the leaders of Australia, Kevin Rudd; Brunei, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin; Canada, Stephen Harper; Chile, Michelle Bachelet; People’s Republic of China, Hu Jinatao; Hong Kong, China, Donald Tsang Yam-kuen; Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyno; Japan, Taro Aso: Korean Republic, Lee Myung-bak; Malayan Economic representative, Mohd Najib Tun Bin Haji Abdul Razak; Mexican Leader, Felipe Calderon; New Zealand, Helen Clark; Papua New Guinea, Michael Somare; Peruvian President Alan Garcia; the Representative for the Philippines; Russian leader Dimitri Medvedev; Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong; Chinese Taipei representative, Lien Chan; Tailand Leader, Somchai Wongsawat; U.S. President George W. Bush and Vietnamese President, Nguyen Mihn Triet.   

The leaders are expected to discuss the Lima Declaration Draft, written by the Foreign Trade and Commerce APEC Ministers.

The document touches on 12 major APEC themed topics such as Free and Facilitated Commerce and Investment, Integration of Regional Economies, Corporate Social Responsibilities, Support for the Doha Round, the Financial Crisis and Improvement of Living Conditions among others.

It is also expected that besides the Lima Declaration the Stand Alone Declaration will also be issued. It will be dedicated specifically to the Global Financial Crisis.

The Meeting will end at 3:30 p.m. when the Council for Entrepreneurial Consultants APEC-ABAC will begin.
