The results are in for the top 30 places to work in Peru and after investigating various companies and their work environment, Great Place to Work Institute Peru has released their findings to El Comercio.

JW Marriot Lima ranks in at the number one spot for the best place to work, with IBM del Peru, SAP Sucursal Peru, Microsoft Peru and Interseguro following. Newcomers who made the list for the first time were Casa Andina, DHL Express, Media Networks, Saga Falabella, SAP, Supermercados Peruanos, Terra Networks and Tgestiona.

Rankings were based on each company’s work environment, benefits, salary wages and work ethics. This year’s rankings increased to 30 companies rather than the usual 25 Great Place to Work Institute Peru has featured in the past.

Of the 30 best places to work in Peru, 27 percent are Peruvian-owned. The only Peruvian-owned company to make the top five ranking is Interseguro.

All the companies making the list are as follows: JW Marriott Lima, IBM del Peru, SAP Sucursal Peru, Microsoft Peru, Interseguro, Sodimac Peru, Kimberly-Clark Peru, Interbank, CinePlanet, Hewlett Packard Peru, Hipermercados Tottus,
Coca-Cola Servicios de Peru, British American Tobacco Peru, Productos Roche, Natura Cosmeticos, Tgestiona, Banco Interamericano de Finanzas (BIF), Compania Peruana de Medios de Pago - Visa Net, Belcorp, McDonald's, Supermercados Peruanos, Cadbury Adams Peru, Ernst & Young, Saga Falabella, Atento, Casa Andina, Duke Energy Egenor, DHL Express Peru, Terra Networks Peru and Media Networks Peru.

How "sad" that almost all the companies listed are foreign owned. Is this another example of Peruvians "abusing" Peruvians?

Maybe it's an example of how Peruvian's can learn and benefit from foriegn investment and free trade?

Yep, it should come as no surprise that Peruvian companies would exploit their employees more than foreign companies.  It's one of Peruvians' best skills, exploitation.  You can ask any Peruvian about just about anything and you are likely to hear a line about how you need to take advantage or exploit something (laws, friends, partners, neighbors, gringos, etc).

One of the defining characteristics between developed countries and the third world is not democracy or capitalism. Rather it is a sound foundation in the rule of law.

In the last dozen tears or so there's been much improvement in both political stability and legal processes in Peru. However, much of the population is simply programmed by nuture to lie and cheat whenever possible. As much as Peruvians aspire to join the devoloped world they nearly often as much default to their cultural habits which sanction corruption and decipt and all other forms of mendacity.

In Peru, progress seems to be marked as two steps forward, one step back. I remain cautiously optmistic and cautious in all dealings Peruvian.

MC, Splaktar

You mean the usa financial, insurance and auto industries are run by peruvians?

LOL
..."As much as Peruvians aspire to join the devoloped world they nearly often as much default to their cultural habits which sanction corruption and decipt and all other forms of mendacity..."

How would you describe what the american financial industry (supported by the us goverment) has done to the world's financial health? Would this be an example of anglosaxon cultural habits?
try to suck everyone dry at any cost?

you go on deluding yourself now, Peruvians (and I gues you meant all of spanish america and spain or only peru?, you werent clear) indeed invented deceit and corruption, just like you brilliantly stated.

Dear "mucho confundo" or whatever you are called..."Muy confundido" is a better translation...
YOu are right that there is lots of corruption in Peru, and this mentality needs to change if Peru wants to "progress" in the "free market economies"...As a Peruvian myself, I have to tell you that I have lived under this corruption and exploitation as you put it.

But, JC Wong is right...What about the US economy and how it has been handled??? There has been lots of corruption there too, right? JC Wong put it really well...The Americans screwed up their economy... THe Canadian regulated economy seems much stronger...
The US economy was all based on Victor Lebow's philosophy. Peru should NOT follow the American philosophy on consumerism, if we want to progress, we should be less corrupt (I agree), but we should NOT repeat the same mistakes of the American DEREGULATED economy .we know it does not work...I am talking about this philosophy.

Our enormously productive economy¡¦ demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfaction, our ego satisfaction, in consumption . . . We need things consumed, burned up, worn out, replaced, and discarded at an ever increasing rate.

- Victor Lebow

Mucho Confundo, Splaktar

I thought corruption only existed in Peru and not in developed countries like the US...

What about Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich????

What was John McCain referring to when he said "we will end the corruption in Wall Street"?? We will change the conrruption in Washington DC??

Wow..you guys are amazing...You guys impress me so much...wow.. my mouth drops...
Please teach me, a little PEruvian

Yeah of course corruption exists every where.. the illinois governor is a perfect example of this.  However, equally bad as it may be, more developed countries have more developed and sophistacted corruption.. seems rediculous but true.

In Peru its from the cop on the street to the highest office of power.  Embedded in the mentality.  Dont get me wrong not for everyone.. but 95 of the people I know here, good people, friends and family included say its wrong, but are still happy to slip`a cop 10 soles... as long as the officials are happy to take bribes.. it will be here for a longtime.

you mean there's a difference between dick cheney and a peruvian cop who takes a bribe?
there's no such thing as sophisticated corruption paul, it's all the same here and there and everywhere. Having laws that allow it (lobbying in the usa for example) is not a sign of development or sophistication, it's a sign of incompetence, greed and general decline.

by the way, you think drugs and guns are smuggled in and out of the usa without the involvement of local law enforcement officials at every level?

"I thought corruption only existed in Peru and not in developed countries like the US..."

I don't know where you got this quote.  It certainly wasn't posted by me.  I have never made any claim that the US does not have corruption.

Regarding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, he has been accused but he has not yet been convicted or confessed his guilt yet.  So we will have to see how it turns out.

I love this! Corruption in Wall Street?? Madoff's fraud against US and European investors??
I thought corruption is what didn't allow Peruvian's business to progress?? I thought some of my fellow gringo friends were saying that the US economy -as one of the strongest in the world - was based on HONESTY and good business..
Only Peruvians are corrupt and that is why our economy does not progress...WOW! I am sooo amazed....
