Star Princess cruise ship arrives in Callao

Callao received an overload of tourists this morning as 2,600 passengers onboard the Star Princess cruise ship were seen entering the province. Many were greeted by local dancers and the Peruvian press who were capturing their first reactions of their arrival in Peru.

The ship arrived around 8:00 a.m. this morning and many headed off to see the rest of the city. The Star Princess is scheduled to leave Callao at 6:00 p.m., giving tourists only a few hours to see some of the major nearby sights. Many tourists were seen hanging out at Lima’s main square drinking pisco sours and enjoying live criolla music.

Part of their trip will consist of visiting Parque de la Muralla, the Cathedral, the churches around the center and the convents of Santo Domingo and San Francisco.

The 20 to 30 cruise ships that land to Peru each year generate around US$40 million because of tourism activities.
