Peru mayor explains reorganization of bus routes

Not only will the municipality change routes vans are currently taking, it will install new traffic lights, build bus stops and fix streets, explained the mayor of Miraflores Manuel Masías in response to protests that began on Monday morning.

While transportation workers blocked a roundabout in the heart of the district, affecting traffic on three main avenues, Mayor Masías assured that new traffic lights were going to be installed by the end of the month and work on seventy new bus stops would begin.

Masías stated that municipal workers hoped to have established the new routes vans will have to take by January 21 so that it could also be decided where the new bus stops would be built.

"The positive thing about the redistribution of routes is that it has made 750 public transportation vehicles take new roads in the district," said Masías, stating traffic was being reorganized in the entire district.

The mayor assured that the municipality's doors were open to citizens that supported the reorganization of bus routes as well as to those that were not in favor.

Hmm, let's think about this alcalda:

1. knows nothing about traffic flow, but decides to change the pattern without study.

2. Censured by the Supreme Court not once, not twice, but three times for illegally closing a nightclub

3. Decided to close Pizza Ally early, already seeing a dramatic loss of tourism and tax income

4. Organized a campaing to close gay bars and discos

6. Gave a list of non-tax paying businesses to be closed to SUNAT, but the list ONLY had people who had donated to his competitors campaign, even though it was later discovered that there were at least 20 businesses mysteriously wiped from his list that donated to HIS campaign that had not paid all their taxes.

This guy is as book a crook..though they all are..he is also a big idiot.

He has no business being in his office and should resign for the good of the people and the good of Miraflores.

I think all the districts should work in coordination with each other to determine bus routes and placement of bus stops.

There seems to absolutely be no concept of "Traffic Engineering" in Lima.

It's just going to be another unsightly hodge podge of buses, bus stops and traffic.

If you think Miraflores is bad you should see the absolute disaster created in Barranco.  It is complete chaos at the intersection of Av. Sol / Republica Panama.  They have this ridiculously complicated traffic light intersection and have rerouted traffic through Barranco onto local roads overrun with crater sized potholes.  Everyone cuts through the local streets now to avoid the traffic light intersection designed by a retarded monkey.  The mayor of Barranco is a complete buffoon.

I agree with Rachel that planning traffic by district has lead to the worsening of traffic since all these new roads were built.  What a complete and epic failure by the Lima authorities.

I cant comment on the corruption allegations ect on the mayor of Miraflores.  But I have to admit its one of the most forward thinking municipalidades in Lima, granted they probably have a big warchest than most.

There is importance placed on parks, culture, and fixing up the old road surfaces.  He is also taking on the traffic problem now which is long over due.  I dont see too may other options than varying the routes given Pardo, Larco, Arequipa and Benavides are overcrowded and generally a disater at the moment. They really do need to strictly enforce the bus lanes and noise pollution of combis and taxis, by actually imposing fines.

So far so good.... I reckon Miraflores is going in the right direction.

Miraflores has succeeded through beautification projects like many districts in Lima, but a half decent job is not a job well done.

I agree, Barranco is one district that makes you scratch your head. I don't understand why they blocked off the western lanes of the Paseo de la Republica making it nearly inaccessible to park in front of the businesses along the route.

I've happened to hit some of those monsterous pot holes off of Pedro de Osma.

The problem is many of the mayors are either uneducated or are involved in special interests.

Paul, FYI almost none of the improvements you see in Miraflores (parks, etc.) were done under the current mayor, he's been in office a very short time, but as Mericorps suggests and I agree, the guy is a corrupt POS.

I support this man  , he closed gay bars and gay clubs , that's a plus , good boy. We shouldn't imitate the sexual corruption of some countries of the first world.

Always good to see a bit of social tolerance Stallion.

Its a just shame for you that they closed the gay bars because with a nickname like yours you would have been quite the celebrity in gay bar.

It is a pretty common fact that those that are the most outspoken against gays have unresolved sexuality issues with themselves.

Come on out of the cloest stallion, you will be a happier person.
