A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake shook an area near the northern coast of Peru early Sunday, the US government reported.# Carlos says :

Accordoing to Sismo Peru and Servicio de Emergencia sismica, the earthquake was of 5.8 richter not 6.8

Yes, well, these services in Peru do not have good equipment.
The earthquake has never been rated a 6.8 as far as I can tell....only a 6.2.
