The exports of Peruvian quinoa registered
a growth of 124% in the first quarter of the year, reaching a total of US$ 1 million, reported the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
If we consider the shipments of the 2008 (US$ 5 million 79 thousand), it's clear that it grew in 1215% compared to 2004, when the total was only US$ 386,000.
According to ADEX, in the three first months of 2009 the Peruvian quinoa was exported to a total of 19 markets, headed by United States with US$ 382 thousand 246, or 66% more than last year's record.
There are 35 companies exporting quinoa, whose ranking was headed by National Organic Group INC. with sales of US$ 171 thousand.
