Peru's Juan Diego Flórez nominated for a 2009 Prince of Asturias Award

The Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has been nominated for a 2009 Prince of Asturias Arts Award, along with the Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli.

Film score composers Ennio Morricone, John Williams and John Barry have also been nominated for Prince of Asturias awards.

Other nominees include French actress and director Jeanne Moreau, North American sculptor Richard Serra and Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci.

The arts awards are the first of the 2009 Prince of Asturias Awards to be announced, to be followed by several other award categories which will be made public during May, June and September.

The arts awards will be announced on 20th May in Oviedo (Northern Spain)
