$37k?? For a Prius? Sheesh, only a sucker would buy that thing. In the US you could buy one Prius and one Toyota Yaris for that price and have two cars and change left over.
Lot cheaper to buy a brand new Yaris down here and have some cholito rig it with GNV.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH THE GOVERNMENT TAXES NEW CARS? THERE MUST BE A REALLY HIGH IMPORT TAX, TO PUT THE PRICE FOR THAT TOYOTA CAR THAT HIGH. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE TELEPHONE NUMBER IS FOR THE TOYOTA DEALER IN LIMA? I WAS THINKING ABOUT BUYING A NEW TOYOTA 4X4 LATER THIS YEAR TO DRIVE AROUND DOWN THERE. MIGHT BE CHEAPER TO SHIP ONE THERE :)

For that kind of money I could just hire a full-time on-call driver for several years and have him drive me around on demand.

Since this month you can buy the TOYOTA Prius in Peru. The launch was with Alan Garcia, the president of Peru and the president of Toyota Peru.
You can see about this new car in Peru in the next URL:

This is a peruvian website called Eco Toyota. Here you can read about the Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive Technology and you can partipate of the Eco Test Drive, in which for every test drive, Toyota will plant a tree in Lima.

What? 37000? In the US the price is 22000. Why so expensive? Because it pollutes less the environment it doesn't mean that a Peruvian had to pay that amount of money. If Toyota really wants to protect the env. they should sell this car at a lower cost.

Toyota has no interest in protecting the environment, they're interested in selling as many cars as possible. Before attacking Toyota, first have a look how much is added to the cost of shipping (100% sure Toyota doesn't have a factory in Peru), importation (tariffs etc; huge overhead for importer compared to sales), sales tax and other taxes that's most likely included in Peru (US prices are always excluding taxes).Add your comment
