Star Peru started a new service that will connect Lima and Ayacucho with direct flights, and an additional Ayacucho-Cusco connection is planned for the future.

The idea is interconnecting the main touristic destinations of those regions.

Star Peru's president, Valentin Kasianov, said that they intend to implement the route Lima - Ayacucho - Cusco, at least twice a week.

Kasianov stated that the company operates its new BAe 146 aircrafts, which will cover the route in 30 minutes and with minimum noise.

He also said that the promotional price for the first route is $ 140 round trip, almost 50% less than the regular rates applied by other airlines that fly to Ayacucho.

The buses down here have horrific crashes on a regular basis.  Government does nothing about driver fatigue, reckless driving, etc.  No way I or anyone in my family will ever set foot in a Peruvian owned aircraft.

Thats a ridiculous and irresponsible comment!! YES BUS crashes are frequent and horrible, BUT Peruvian plane crashes are few and far between (less frequent than in the us/europe).  You are much much safer traveling by bus from lima to a province in the highlands than via bus or car, esp in the most dangerous RAINY SEASON.  Despite what the poster says, this is All the MORE reason to take the planes in peru.  Star peru has some good service cos they go to many provinces like Ayacucho, but LSBusre has much more dependable service (less cancelled flights, more professional).  Both airlines have excellent safety records.  The best way to travel safely is to actually CHECK the stats.  Good luck with your travels!
