Peru: Ancient human remains found in Chan Chan (Trujillo)

The remains of a Chimu woman were found buried in Chan Chan citadel, located in Trujillo (La Libertad region).
The finding took place during improvement works in Ñain-An Palace (Birds House).
The body belongs to a woman approximately 22 years old, of age, whose death may have been human sacrifice to avoid the impact of El Niño-Southern Oscillation during fifteenth century.
The woman is 1.55 meter tall and was found in dorsal decubitus position; she may have been hanged and buried alive.
"This is the first time we found this kind of an evidence,” said Cristóbal Campana, director of Executive Unit 110.
Specialists from the Peruvian National Institute of Culture will perform further studies on the body.
