According to the Finance Ministry's Multi-annual Macroeconomic Framework, public investment in Peru is likely to grow by 51.7% this year, boosted by the implementation of the government's economic stimulus package.

It is also expected that public consumption will increase by 8% in real terms due to higher expenses in road and infrastructure maintenance projects.

The economic activity in 2009 may register a moderated growth due to a 3.9% rise in non-primary production.

Primary production may see a moderate growth of 3.5%, driven by a 2.4% increase in the agricultural sector, due to increased production and demand for livestock products including meat, eggs and milk.

The Agricultural subsector may suffer a slowdown, and the Fishing activity may rise by 2.9 percent due to increasing fish extraction for indirect human consumption.

The health officer said that his case would only be a simple cold, due to the heavy rains that have been registered in the region these days.

“He arrived on April 20th . He should be showing already some swine flu symptoms and he's not. It's been more than enough days and we can rule out swine flu,” he said.

Manrique said in a press conference that the patient was discharged and is back to work, at the oil camp n°64, which belongs to Petrix.

However, a medical team will go to the mentioned oil camp to take blood samples of the workers and run the respective tests, since some other persons are having flu-like symptoms.

Chile not to close borders with Peru due to swine flu

Chile's President Michelle Bachelet ruled out closing borders with Peru, remarking that the alleged confirmed case of swine flu in Lima “is yet to be 100% confirmed”.

She also declared that Chile's Ministry of Health is in permanent networking and coordination with their South American counterparts in order to supervise the outbreak's evolution.

Peru's sanitary authorities have declared a “yellow alert”, a measure that includes every health facility in the country, since some other possible cases are still being closely monitored (to determine if they are swine flu or not).

Bachelet announced on Chilean TV and radio that a contingency plan is ready to work against the H1N1 virus, if necessary.

“We need to remain calm, there's not any confirmed swine flu case in Chile” she said.

After establishing that Peru is to use the Japanese-Brazilian digital TV standard, which among other advantages will allow television on cellular phones, the Andean country's Ministry of Communications (MTC) stated decoders would begin being sold for $28.

The MTC explained that within six months Peruvians would be able to begin purchasing these decoders and be ready to enjoy the benefits of digital TV.

It was reported that these decoders would work with everything from black and white TVs to LCDs and plasmas.

"Currently these decoders are not on the market but they will be available as soon as the implementation process begins, which we hope will be in the next six months," said MTC representatives.

Jorge Cuba, the vice minister of communications explained that the Japanese-Brazilian standard had been chosen, among other reasons, for its low cost.

Other decoders cost over $50, said Cuba.

He explained that decoders for the European digital standard cost $55 while decoders for the U.S. and Chinese standards cost $89.90 and $150 respectively.
