Aiming to analyze the national and international regulations companies have to apply to manage efficiently business and information processes, the Faculty of Systems Engineering of University of Lima has organized the 6th International Seminar on Information Technology, Systems and Business Solutions, to be held on November 5th and 6th at University of Lima Central Auditorium.

Companies such as IBM, Datco, Aenor, Global Crossing, Telefónica del Perú, Ernst &Young, CXO Community and Microsoft will participate at this international seminar to analyze supplies management, ISO 27001 information security management, net security and business continuation, identity management at digital era and risk management in business, among other themes.

In present business environment, processes are more dependent on information and new technologies, meaning companies have to administrate more efficiently its technological assets and associated risks.

Andina

The University of Virginia announced Friday it will explore  topics ranging from Incan construction techniques to hydrology and foundational engineering at the famous citadel of Machu Picchu, located in Cusco, Peru.

The presentation, by the University alumnus T. Andrew Earles, will provide an overview of research conducted in Peru over the past 15 years by expert Kenneth Wright and his colleagues at Wright Water Engineers and Wright Paleohydrological Institute.

Earles has worked for Wright Water Engineers since earning his Ph.D. in civil engineering at the University in 1999.

He is a vice president with the company and works on projects related to hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management and other urban water resources challenges.

The presentation will take place on Friday, October 2nd, at 2 p.m. in Olsson Hall room 120 at the University of Virginia and will be opened to the University community.

The event is part of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Seminar Series at the School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Two modern classrooms with computers were donated to the the Public School N° 86220 in the town of Pachapaqui, Aquia District (Bolognesi, Ancash),.

The donation was made under the Schools Network project, that is run by the Peruvian Institute of Business Administration (IPAE).

This is sponsorsed by Empresarios por la Educación (Employers for Education) and the financing of Antamina Mining Fund (AMF).

The ceremony of deliverance was attended by Felipe Trejo Huaman (the school's Principal), Esther Gamarra (President the Farmers' Community in Aquia), Germán Cotrina Campos, president of the parent's association (APAFA), teachers, parents and representatives of the company executing the work.

Local authorities expressed their gratitude for this donation, that will benefit the children of Pachapaqui.

Pepi Patrón, alumna and professor of General Studies at the Peruvian university “Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Perú,” is the first woman to be named to the post of Vice-Chancellor of the university. Patrón has decided to promote areas of research, innovation and technology with her new post.

She wants to make sure the interdisciplinary research also has a place within the university, as, according to PuntoEdu, (the newspaper of the PUCP), she believes that “there are problems, like poverty or climate change, that are multidimensional, and as such, need to be examined in various ways.” Her hope is to institutionalize research and to promote it on every level within the university. She states that “a university is an institution that looks at the world. We want to have a university that allows us to align with the Peruvian state, businesses and regional governments in order to better serve the country.” Her goal is to show that the things that occur within a university truly do have an impact on the rest of the country.

According to EFE news agency, the Valencia's Council for Immigration and Citizenship has allocated 200,000 euros for the creation of the Institute for the Development and the Educational Innovation in Peru, a project that will be done with the Iberoamerican States Organization (OEI).

According to an statement issued by the Generalitat, this initiative started after the 4-months extension of a project that the Council is currently operating in Peru.

This project includes activities such as hiring specialists for the institute, the development of a virtual space and an electronic bulletin, making a directory and also diagnosis on the area of education.

Belarus and Peru are on their way to sign an agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas, Anatoly Konkov, Deputy Head of the Department for America – Head of the Department for Latin America of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus, said during a solemn meeting marking Independence Day of Peru.

The event has been organized by the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Peru in Belarus.

The official noted that Belarus and Peru have been developing relations in various areas. In his words, Belarus considers Peru as one of the most important countries in South America which it is eager to develop cooperation with.

The opening of the Honorary Consulate of Peru in Minsk was a good step in this direction that also showed the interest of Peru to develop the dialogue with Belarus.

Belarus intends to expand the trade and economic cooperation with Peru.

The financial crisis has left a lesser impact on that country. “We are going to advance Belarusian products, in particular, BelAZ, MAZ, dump trucks and road-construction vehicles to the Peruvian market. We will continue to import Peruvian seafood and coffee,” Anatoly Konkov said.

The Belarusian side is also interested in developing humanitarian and cultural cooperation with Peru.

The Park Avenue Cafe has been opened in Minsk that offers the Peruvian national cuisine.

Honorary Consul of Peru in Belarus Andrei Schebrov noted that the national holiday of Peru, Independence Day, was celebrated in Minsk for the first time.

Amazonas-born teacher Italo Montenegro Delgado, who works at Victor Andres Belaunde rural school in this northern Peruvian region, has won Interbank-sponsored El Maestro que Deja Huella (“The Teacher who Leaves a Mark”) contest.

Montenegro teaches Social Science in high school education, and his main concern is to stop kids from dropping out of school, so he developed a project that allows students to do work and help their families while attending school.

His school has created a coffee producers association, which currently exports coffee to the US and Europe and and also allows parents to keep the kids attending classes.

Interbank granted Montenegro Delgado the first place in this contest.

A group of students from Minot State University in North Dakota, USA, has chosen Peru to conduct a 30-day cultural immersion trip, as Andina news agency quotes.

They will visit tourist attractions and also improve their knowledge of Spanish.

Alex John Lyman, Jessica Revelee, Brandon Smith, Whitney Loftesnes, MacKenzie Mack and Kristina Mader, from United States and Canada, will stay in local family homes so they can  enjoy direct contact with Peruvian culture.

"One of my dreams since I teach Spanish in the United States, was to bring my students to this wonderful country, so they can practice the language and know its attractions. So I referred this project to the Minot State University, where it was fully supported," said Kemerly Moorehouse, Spanish professor.

The group will visit Lima, Paracas, Ica, Nazca, Cusco and Puno.

Almost 300 Peruvians would benefit from the Master's scholarship programs in France and Italy, reported Luis Maezono Yamashita, the president of Strategic Alliance of Public Universities and rector of National University Agraria La Molina.

The announcement was made during the III International Fair of Scholarships, organized by Universia, a Latin American educational network intended for students, professors and graduates from universities and institutes.

Some 250 scholarships will be granted to study in French universities, while the rest (between 30 and 50) will be awarded for further studies in Italy.

According to Maezono, recipients will be prepared for careers in areas such as science, linguistics, humanities, art, design, medicine, health and biology.

These scholarships are possible by of Italy and France governments, as well as the Development Finance Corporation (Cofide).

Each Thursday from 4:30pm to 6 pm, youngsters from the populous district of Pueblo Nuevo, Chincha (200kms to the south of Lima, in the Ica region) have the chance to join the Reading in the Park Program, run by Promolibro, which allows them to discover the wonderful world of books.

This program (run by Mary Immaculate School), started in November of 2008.

From that date until April 2009, almost 2,000 children have been made familiar with the good habit of reading.

The program is conducted by Roxana Galvez Enciso, a school teacher, with the collaboration of "Casa de la Juventud de Chincha" (Chincha's House of Youth) which performs puppet shows, dances and other educational activities.

Volunteer students from the Ada Byron University at Chincha have joined this program, too.

The reading in the Park program is completely free.
