Head of Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI), Martin Moscoso, has announced that piracy sales have dropped by 12 percent since they launched their anti-piracy campaign in 2004.

Since then, INDECOPI has worked with local movie theaters and movie distributors to help reduced the risk unauthorized movie leaks. The drop in piracy sales is a sign that their piracy campaign is working even though the organization has not reached its goal.

As part of the campaign against piracy, local movie theaters in Lima will launch this Sunday, November 30, a special rate on tickets for 3.50 soles each. The promotional event is known as “The Day of Cinema” and will apply to all movies in participating theaters around the country.

“The Day of Cinema” is a campaign for theaters to attract more people to their venues, usually held on Sundays throughout the year. Moscoso said that because of Peru’s on-going efforts against piracy, cinema chains are planning to invest in US$30 million in new cinema complexes in the next two years.

In today’s issue of her magazine, Magaly TV, the red-headed gossip reporter published a four-page letter to her producer pleading him and his family for forgiveness for involving him in the mess that has put both Medina and Guerrero behind bars.

“Now that these cold bars separate us, I need you more than ever my generous friend,” Magaly wrote.

She thanked Guerrero for constantly looking out for her while behind bars. “I know that you have given instructions to the lawyers asking them to release me from jail before you and that you want to serve my five-month sentence…I know you’ve called the television station and asked for them to watch over me. I feel warm inside knowing you’re always worrying about me, even behind bars.”

She concluded with, “thank you for caring about me, for always taking care of me and for always being by my side these 11 years during the good and the bad when you first told me the day of our sentencing. Whatever happens, I will always be there for you when you need it."
