Peru’s air traffic on international flights increased by 15.96% compared to 2010, according to a report by the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC).
According to the report, the number of passengers between January and August this year was 3,814,499, compared to the 2,814,499 passengers during the same period in 2010.
August alone saw 518,646 passengers, an increase of 11.28% compared to the same month in 2010, when the total number of passengers 466,090.
On the other hand, air traffic on domestic flights from January to August saw an increase of 17.24%, compared to 2010.
599,142 passengers traveled nationally during August, an increase of 14.87 percent compared to August 2010, when the number of passengers was 521,583.
The most popular destinations during August were Cusco with 168,662 passengers (an increase of 16.47%) and Arequipa with 98,020 passengers (an increase of 8.53%).
Iquitos was third on the list with 57.544 passengers (a 6.54% decrease) and Piura with 51,259 passengers (a 53.81% increase).
Nationally, between January and August 2011, Lan Peru had the highest participation in domestic air traffic carrying 2,561.067 passengers, which accounted for 62.53% of the market.
Peruvian Airlines carried 619,985 passengers (15.14% of the market), Star Peru carried 561,810 passengers (13.72%), Taca Peru carried 249,716 (6.10 %) and Atsa 38,110 (0.93%).
The most popular local destinations were Cusco, Arequipa and Iquitos.
