*Eduardo Ferreyros*, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, joined *President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski* in New York for an official visit to meet with alpaca buyers in the United States. The focus of the gathering was to invite the buyers to attend *Alpaca Moda* and persuade them to increase their imports of alpaca from Peru.
“I have met with many U.S. companies that import finished alpaca products—designed with the *New York lifestyle* in mind— and we are very optimistic about their demand; they are aware of the fiber’s high quality,” Ferreyros said.
Alpaca Moda will take place October 26-28 in *Arequipa, Peru*. The event which is in its third year looks to promote the Alpaca Peru brand and alpaca products as well as open new trade opportunities. At least *80 buyers from 25 countries* including the United States, France, Japan, and Germany are expected to attend.
According to Andina.com, “The United States accounted 52% of alpaca apparel imports in 2015, totaling *US $23.5 million*.” The Peruvian government encourages U.S. buyers to attend the Alpaca Moda event.
