General View

Week 38: August 26, 2008

A very poor weekend. Sunny on Saturday. Yesterday was very flat.
Today, the SW swell showed up. The direction is accurate, 224° at 15 seconds, it will come up a bit tomorrow and it will fire up on Thurdsday and Friday, there will be a slight swell direction and hope this will not mess up the nice waves we have now.

Tides:
Low, early morning, 1.46 feet. High, early afternoon, 1.69 feet. Not much difference between tides.(Please note that the tide changes an hour forward every day)

Wind:
SE 130°, from 16 to 20 knots. Moderate to High winds.

Weather°C:

Today: Overcast/Drizzle to 21°C
Tomorrow: Overcast/Drizzle to 21°C
Rest of the week: Overcast/Drizzle to 21°C

Ocean Surface Temperature
16.8°C. Wind contributes to the chill factor. Some tips: Drink some fluids before the surf session, water in your body will keep you warm, salt water drains body fluids, drink liquids before you enter the ocean.
After the session, take off your wetsuit and dry up immediately, put some warm clothes on. Take along some hot chocolate, tea or coffee so you can drink after the session to regain warmth and replenish energies.

North

Máncora:

Will show something during the late week. Try Lobitos or Zorritos.

Pacasmayo:
There are promises that it will great by Friday

Chicama:
It will also get waves. This place is a wave machine, perfect long lefts.

  Barranco, August 26th.

  Miraflores, August 26th.

Lima

Bad weekend, too small. Sunny on Saturday, good for surf teaching though.
The swell will show some waves during the week, it will be big by Thursday.
If it picks up more, try Herradura. Beware of crowds and surf safely.

South

Punta Hermosa area:

Up to 2 meter waves, right now, it will pickup even more by Thursday.

San Bartolo:
Nice waves now, Thursday and Friday will be big. Peñascal would be the choice.

Comments:

There are lots of tourists that came down to Miraflores's beaches to take a close look at the surf and maybe take some lessons.
A guy from Oregon came over and sat down with me s couple of days ago, we had a nice chat. He is a skateboard photographer and surfs the Oregon coast, he will be going next to Tambopata with a group and learn more about this beloved country.
We talked about surf teaching and how I decided to share the sport with kids, adults, and why I became a surf photographer. It seems that all surfers have things in common, the attraction for the ocean, the search, travel and share surf experiences.
If you surf and travel, try to talk to people, learn from their experiences, give them tips or ask for them, treat them nice and learn from them. I have travelled all along the world surfing and my experiences have been the greatest, I can't forget talking to this nice and good looking Hawaiian old lady in Waimea Falls or my friend Hiro from Japan, Santiago from Mexico, Adriane from Puerto Rico, Tania from Brasil, or Justine from France. They are not star surfers, just surfers like you and me with the wonderful open view of the surf world. People who love the Ocean, specially the tourists that show by, are the warmest I ever met, shine them a smile.
All I can say is, I am glad I am a surfer!! Thank God for this gift!! And most of all, surfing in Peru is a greater gift.
