Good Morning Guys and Gals,
If you are reading this in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope that the heat is treating you kindly. For those of us down below the equator, I hope you have a comfy sweater on and are cradling a nice hot concoction in your hands!
I recently returned to Lima after spending a nice two-week family vacation back in New York and certainly enjoyed the warm, sunny weather. I am a sun-being but, if you properly “nest” -essentially make your home comfy with candles, blankets, warm-colored flowers, or whatever brings you warmth indoors- your space at home, the cold and gray weather of Lima ain’t that bad! It is sweater weather after all and a change in climate is quite refreshing.
Something that I found so intriguing while in New York was the similarity in “Today’s Hits” list. It seemed that the radio stations I play in Lima were also playing in New York. And I am sure you can guess which song was basically on repeat the entire time…drum roll…Despacito! Love it or hate it, it creeps into the ears and if you accept it, well, you can have a great time dancing to its rhythm.
Even more interesting though, and for me, a very cool fact is that Despacito is the first mostly Spanish-language song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 20 years. Because of its success, many more top labels are looking for Latin artists and it has proven to be a “white-glove slap to anyone who doesn’t think Latin music is a global phenomenon,” says Sony Music U.S. Also, in the past two years with the ease of access to Latin songs on streaming services (Spotify has been the best for me), the rise in Latin music has become more popular worldwide.
Check out the song that has caught the world’s attention and heat up your Saturday morning!
This song seems to be loved by so many, not only all over the globe but also by the National Police of Peru. I was at the Immigration Office the other day and they had this Despacito rendition song and video playing on repeat and no one minded!
I hope I have thoroughly warmed you up to begin the day!
Chao for now,
Hope
