The Peruvian film Retablo, which was shown at festivals in Madrid, New York and Berlin, among others, is now available on Netflix.
Retabalo, which arrived in theaters across Peru in 2019, is now available on Netflix. This is a great opportunity to watch a captivating movie shot in the sierra highlands of Ayacucho. The film explores the subjects of love, tolerance, and respect.
Exploring real life in the Andes
Retablo is the opera prima of Alvaro Delgado-Aparicio. With the help of the Peruvian Ministry of Culture as well as foreign funds, he was able to produce this movie that so far, has accumulated 27 international awards; the most recent was at Dreamspeakers, the International Indigenous Cinema Festival in North America, in the category of best foreign movie.
The movie is largely in Quechua with subtitles. The cast of Retablo includes the renowned Peruvian actress Magaly Solier, along with Amiel Cayo, an experienced actor from Puno, and Junior Béjar Roca, a sixteen-year-old with no prior experience in acting who gives a truly remarkable performance.
