The exports sector in Peru is hoping that trade relations with the United Kingdom remain strong since it is believed that Brexit could have a great impact on bilateral trade.
This, according to the Association of Exporters (Adex), cited by Fresh Plaza.
“For the interests of Peru, it is preferable that an agreement is signed between the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom, as this way, it will be possible to start a direct negotiation with the latter in order to maintain normal bilateral economic relations,” said the Director of the Cien-Adex, Carlos González, according to the aforementioned media.
Nonetheless, an immediate Brexit would impact the trade with Peru.
The European Union granted an extension until April 12 for the United Kingdom to deliberate, but if no agreement is reached, by May 22 the separation from the community will become a reality.
González pointed out that Peru enjoys low tariffs in the European Union thanks to a Free Trade Agreement, and in the case of Brexit, this will no longer have effect with the United Kingdom.
