Love is universal, but we all have different ways to express it. This is how Peruvians celebrate Valentine’s Day.
According to Peru’s largest national paper, El Comercio, around 69% of the people in Peru will be celebrating their loved ones come February 14. No matter if it is a simple gesture or an exaggerated show of affection, Peruvians know how to have a good time. This is how Peruvians celebrate Valentine’s day.
“Peruvians are willing to spend an average of S/100 per person in restaurant reservations, hotels, or tickets for shows,” said Greta Armestar, Country Manager of Atrápalo.pe, an online reservation site. “Besides, we are more cautious when it comes to making a reservation because we do it up to two weeks in advance at the most.”
Also, Atrápalo.pe says that people in Peru prefer a romantic experience rather than giving or receiving presents. For example, a night out to a restaurant or one of these romantic spots is preferred.
The report estimated that the average budget for a romantic dinner for two is about S/95 per person. It was noted that besides candlelit dinners, other favorite activities to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Peru included concerts, theater productions, and stand-up comedy performances.
As for hotel reservations, Peruvians on average prefer four-star hotels. Again, bookings are made within two weeks before the big date. The average spent is S/192 per person (between $100-$150 a night) and the favorite national destinations include Lima and Paracas; international favorites are Cartagena and Panama.
“Technology is also a great ally for love,” Armestar told El Comercio. She says that the use of smartphones or tablets to plan Valentine’s Day increased in 2018 by 16%.
