The South American country of Peru is every trekker's dream come true and often figures at the top of travellers' wish lists. Every year, the world famous Inca trail attracts millions of visitors from around the world who come to walk in the steps of the people who built the sacred city of Machu Picchu. However, people who spent time in the area will tell you the Salkantay trail is a rewarding alternative to the busy Inca trail.Wow!!! That´s good news! I did the inca trail in 1999 and though it is a very difficult challenge the cherry on top is climbing all the way up to Wayna Pichu which isnt that difficult after 4 day trekking and the "Dead woman" peak (the 4,200 mts you mentiones).# katherine says :
I sould love to go trekking again but to tell you the truth, this thing of the 4,600 mts made me doubt!!! ha,ha,ha,.......!
Anyway, good news and i´ll think about it!
Regards!
Surely, the Salkantay trek is a great option to enjoy a fantastic trek without too many tourists.# Clare Shepherd says :
A new option opened since 2 years ago and it si full of fun called Inka jungle trek which offers biking downhill and trekking in some inca paths.
The landscapes are very beautiful surround by coca plantations and fruits.
There are few companies who offer trips like Peru Incredible Experiences or PIE PERU

Hi# Pat Wanner says :
I am really interested in doing an alternative hike. What availability is there for this hike for the end if July/Begining of August?
Do you still get to climb up to the lost city of Machu Picchu, and at what time. Is it in the early morning to avoid the crowds in the afternoon.
How much do the alternative treks cost?
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Clare Shepherd
There are 4 of us who would like to do this alternative trek you talk about. How much is it and would it be possible to do the end of October? Do you end up at Machu Picchu the final day? What do we need to bring?# Trekking Peru says :
