Caleta San José: a beautiful hidden destination in Arequipa

Published in
Translated by Natasha ClayThis breathtaking destination is surrounded by beaches, some of which are considered the most beautiful in Peru.

La Caleta San José, with its fine sand and soft waves, is ideal for taking walks and enjoying the sunset. This destination can be found between the ports of Matarani and Quilca, and takes roughly two hours to arrive by boat from either port.

What to do

If you want to relax and forget about your problems, here you can do just that. As La Caleta San José is located far from the city you can only get basic services here, but that’s the best thing if you want to get connected to nature.

General information

La Caleta can be found in Arequipa, specifically in the province of Camaní¡ in the district of Quilca. To get to this beautiful place you have to leave from the port of Quilca and sail for about two hours before reaching this destination. Here you can find a hostel that has only nine bungalows with basic services.

If you’re been convinced to explore this great beach then consider packing the following items:

Light summer clothes
A sweater for the evening

Remember, the most important thing is to relax and have a great time. Leave all your stress behind and let your mind wander.
