If you are game enough for an extreme bike ride, then Peru has a lot to offer you.

Unlike Chile or Argentina, Peru is crisscrossed with a number of mountain trails giving the bikers unlimited options of large and small roads to choose from. The quiet mountain trails of Peru which are sure to satiate your lust for adventure can be accessed by bikers of all skill levels.

In today’s post, we are going to take a quick look at some of the extreme places where you can take your bike in Peru.

1. Inca Legends Mountain Biking Tour (Cusco)

An ideal route for beginner and intermediate riders, this trail would take you through the gorgeous Peruvian countryside. This mountain biking tour starts from Cusco and you will head south in a private shuttle to the starting point of the biking trail which has an altitude of about 4267 meters.

Make sure to carry your winter gear since the weather can get extreme at times. From there you will be soaring downhill gaining a speed of 50 mph on the dirt roads running alongside the mighty Apurimac River. Your tour guide is supposed to provide you with an authentic Peruvian lunch and the rest of the ride will take you through beautiful little villages like Paruro.

2. Lares Inca Trail Ride

A rather challenging trail for intermediate riders, this 18+ km bike trip in Cusco is one of the most exciting adventure activities in Peru. The single track is covered with packed dirt and rocks and the view consists of lovely rock gardens, Inca stairs, and grassy lands. The route which passes by the Inca ruins would take you down to Calca.

3. Inca Avalanche DH Race Course

The Inca Avalanche DH race course which attracts some of the best riders every year comes with a varied terrain meant only for hardcore bikers. The trail which lasts for around 20-30 minutes has got possibly all kinds of terrains- woody, muddy, rocky, fluid and more. This downhill trail is a must ride for any extreme adventure enthusiast.

4. Lamay Mountain Bike Ride

This 13.8 km ride takes you to a remote locale with gnarly staircases from Inca times and plenty of wild dogs. The path winds down through loads of steep rock drops and offers you a number of superb photo opportunities.

5. Patacancha Enduro Mountain Biking Ride

As the name suggests, this trail is only suitable for the most experienced bikers since it is all about elevation. This physically demanding track would take you through picturesque Peruvian villages with adobe houses. One of the highest trails in the world, the Patacancha Enduro ride covers a distance of 29.9 km.

6. Salkantay Pueblo Mountain Bike Tour, Cusco

If you are not up for a whole day biking trip then choose the Salkantay Pueblo bike trail in Cusco which would offer you 3 trails in and around Cusco- each one with around 30 minutes of riding time. You will be able to choose from any 3 of these trails -the Huayarcocha, the Yuncaypata, Salkantay Pueblo or the Occopata downhill trail, depending on your skill level, the weather, and of course the trail conditions.
