The Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Allan Bollard, praised Peru’s role within the economic bloc and for hosting and organizing the recent meetings attended by its leaders, the Andina news agency reported.
Bollard expressed his thanks for the Andean country, and stresses that it will soon be a venue for nearly 100 meetings leading up to the APEC Leader’s Summit to be held in Peru in 2016.
There will be meetings of ministers and leaders who will review the work being done in the forum to give guidelines work for the coming years, he told the Andina news agency.
APEC is a bloc of 21 economies from the Asia and Pacific areas that cover a wide range of issues, mostly dealing with economics.
One core topic that has been recently introduced is forest resources management, which was the focus of the current APEC meeting of ministers responsible for mining, held this week in the city of Cusco.
The event is taking place from August 19 to 21 and is attended to bring about the Cusco Declaration. The document states the bloc’s intentions to promote mechanisms and initiatives for the sustainable development of forest resources.
Furthermore, during the three-day forum it was agreed to set up an Expert Group on Illegal Logging and Trade of Forest products, Bollard said.
