It finally happened. I was blocked by a family member on Facebook. Not for a political discussion nor for any other “hot topic” issue, but because they not only don’t approve of what I do for a living, they think it’s “BS.” On top of this, they have told me on more than one occasion that my parents are rolling in their graves over the choices I’ve made.
Which is interesting as I feel amazing about my current direction. I have recently been hired by my dream client to be not only their coach but a part of their new project; I was selected to participate in Alptitude as only 1 of 25 global entrepreneurs and I am receiving encouraging feedback on my new Strengths-Based Parenting programs. I feel great. And when they said that it was “BS,” you know what? I wasn’t rattled.

I wasn’t rattled because I am more confident in my direction than I have been in my (almost) 44 years. I am passionate about what I do. I am living in the strengths-zone.
I listened to what they had to say. I let it wash over me. I thanked them for their candor but also responded that it was of little consequence to me as we hadn’t been a part of each other’s lives for over 25 years. Perhaps they just didn’t understand what I was doing.
Because when you have a dream, you will have naysayers. They will become louder the closer to your dream you are and the more successful you get.
And then they blocked me; but not before letting me know they were sad and felt they had let me down and failed my parents as well. Then they were gone. No chance to respond this time.
Why do I share this with you? Because when you have a dream, you will have naysayers. They will become louder the closer to your dream you are and the more successful you get. But if you are passionate about what you do, then you won’t be rattled either. You’ll keep going and you will revel in every step forward. No matter how big or how small.
And you should.
Don’t give up. Keep going. It will all be worth it. And the naysayers, they were never your people anyway.
What if you haven’t found that zone yet? No worries. You might be surprised by the insight you can gain just from learning your talents and truly understanding their power. I encourage you to take the Clifton StrengthsFinder test. In the meantime, if you know your talents, feel free to send me your questions (work, parenting, etc) and I will do my best to address them in upcoming columns. I have already received some very interesting messages and will be publishing the answers shortly.
Till next time…
