The bodies of three men have been found on the snow-capped mountain in the department of Ancash.
Chileans Cristóbal Bizzari and Gabriel Navarrete were found alongside Russian Alexander Mazmev at the base of the Garcilaso Pyramid mountain in the district of Caraz in Ancash, Peru.
The 3 Mountaineers had intended to climb the snow-capped peak but were likely caught in an avalanche in the ravine of Parón before they could begin the ascent, El Comercio reports.
The Association of Mountain Guides of Peru led the search and eventually found the bodies of the 3 men, bringing closure to their disappearance.
Every year mountain climbers are lost in the Andean heights, especially in the Cordillera Blanca of Ancash. It is important to take precautions and go with a trusted guide who knows the territory well, but even then, nature is unpredictable.
Peru’s Ministry of the Interior sent a helicopter to the search party which brought back the Mountaineer’s bodies to the regional capital of Huaraz.
