Excelan Education launched in Lima during January of 2011, as the brainchild of co-founders Isis Böttger and Adam Karl. The company provides English courses to various corporate clients in Lima, Peru and saw an important niche in the market to focus on professional development. They specialize in TOEFL coaching, exam preparation, and application coaching. Offering this full package of professional services to corporate Limeños is what Excelan says sets them apart from the rest.
Isis Böttger is a vivacious and motivated entrepreneur from Seattle, WA, U.S.A., who lives in the heart of Miraflores, Lima, Peru. Now a dual citizen of Peru and the U.S., Isis visited Peru several times before moving to live and work in Lima in 2010. After working in public relations for a hotel in Miraflores, Isis saw an investment opportunity in the ESL market. She’s a lover of languages and culture who quickly fell in love with Peru, where people live life to the fullest.
Isis’ experience as a young entrepreneur has kept her very busy, but she loves what she does and is always smiling. She strives to create a healthy balance between work and personal life, although the two tend to integrate quite nicely. She holds a degree in Business and Communications from the University of California, Los Angeles, and has family roots in the Amazonas region of Peru.
Recently, CEO Isis Böttger bought out co-founder Adam Karl and hired a new academic director, Julie Cain. Collaborating with new investors, Böttger and Cain are rolling out a new and innovative program to build relationships with MBA programs at top universities in the U.S., U.K., and Australia. The program will equip and aid Peruvian professionals to apply to MBA programs at universities like Yale, Harvard, Columbia, New South Wales, and others.
Essentially, Excelan is building a pipeline for Limeño professionals to study English and then apply for competitive MBA programs around the world. This initiative comes largely in response to demand from prestigious law firms in Lima, who need lawyers with MBA training. Excelan is currently working with firms such as Osterling Abogados and Ferreros Abogados.
The company currently has about 25 teachers, most of whom are from the U.S., professionally certified teachers from reputable universities. The company is organized to match teacher background with student interests. Excelan also teaches Spanish to expats in Lima and – more recently – to Americans in Seattle, WA. Excelan Education hopes to open an office in Rio de Janiero in the near future.
