The Peruvian government is working on the necessary actions to ensure that agricultural exports exceed $10 billion dollars by 2021 and extend the scope of the Law of Agrarian Promotion.
“We will continue promoting agro exports. Our goal is to exceed $10 billion US dollars by 2021. We keep growing, mainly in non-traditional products,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), Gustavo Mostajo to El Peruano.
Mostajo also outlined during a meeting with the directors of the Association of Agricultural Producers’ Guilds of Peru (Agap) that the government will work primarily on health programs, related to this sector.
“The improvement of the sanitary status of the country will be sought, such as the control and eradication of the fruit fly. This eradication plan will continue to be implemented in the main fruit and vegetable valleys.”, he said, according to the media.
In addition, the minister explained that they have a project to improve products, in order to maintain and secure the international market.
On the other hand, Mostajo also said that “one of the measures contemplated is the strengthening of the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) to determine new agricultural products for the next 20 and 30 years.”, wrote El Peruano.
