A historical manuscript signed by the Argentine general José de San Martín (1778-1850), liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru, was stolen from the General Archive of the Nation in Lima.
“The staff of the General Archive of the Nation reported on November 16 before the division of police robberies, the theft of the manuscript of the liberator Don José de San Martín,” the institution said in a statement, according to information from Tele13.
The organism assured that the police is reviewing “the copies of the security camera of the repository and of all the areas of the General Archive of the Nation”, located in the center of Lima.
“In the manuscript, signed on October 13, 1821, San Martin formalized the manumission of the slave Juana Maza for collaborating in the struggle for the Independence of Peru, proclaimed by the Argentine military on July 28 of that year”, they explained.
The institution also said that the last time this document was requested by an investigator was on September 14 of this year.
