Considered one of the greatest literary figures in Peru’s history, the nation remembers César Vallejo upon what would have been his 123rd birthday today.
Born March 16, 1892, Vallejo hailed from a small town located in La Libertad, of north eastern Peru. The author’s native province of Santiago de Chuco has been celebrating Vallejo’s birth with activities that began Friday, March 13. Contests testing How much do you know about César Vallejo and theatrical presentations, all led up to the main day of celebrations and a mass, both of which took place on Sunday.
In years past, Vallejo received a famed Google doodle celebrate the special day, but this year no such illustration appeared. (Anna Atkins has stolen the posthumous-spotlight this year, celebrating what would have been her 216th birthday. Let’s hope Vallejo was enough of a gentleman not to mind.)The great Peruvian poet is celebrated on the anniversary of his birth.
