There’s a new dating experience taking place in Lima and it’s called “Citas Rápidas” or “Speed Dates” in English. Created by Patricia Sotomayor, she says to have witnessed how many couples that meet through this method have long-lasting relationships.
Sotomayor arrived in Peru in 2013, according to El Comercio, after living for 20 years in Houston, United States where she had her first encounter with speed dating. “Two years later she established this idea in our country and she confesses that the first participants felt a little bit distrustful about it”, the aforementioned media said.
She tells that with time people began to feel more comfortable with the format and that it is very important to define filters, such as age range and what they do for a living. “This is why we request the DNI and a certified copy of their degrees”, Sotomayor explained.
Even if there have been many success stories Sotomayor has witnessed, it is not always the case. For this reason, she encourages participants to experience speed dating with their best disposal and to take things very lightly.
“Citas Rápidas” takes place at night at a bar in Miraflores and most people are between 35 and 55 years old. Everyone is assigned with a number and receive a piece of paper where they will write the name of those they felt more connection with.
The ladies will remain seated while the gentlemen rotate from chair to chair when a bell indicates the time is up.
