Peru’s Central Reserve Bank introduced a commemorative S/ 1 coin this week to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of the birth of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi Cervantes.
The reverse of the coin depicts Colonel Bolognesi and the inscription: “… don’t let them believe that my duty had a price,” a phrase taken from the letter sent by the national hero to his wife Maria Josefa, days before his death.
On the reverse appears the image of the renowned figure, surrounded by the text: “Colonel Francisco Bolognesi bicentennial of his birth.”
These limited coins are initially priced at S/ 117 soles.
