Cusco: New Year’s celebrations cut short


According to a statement made by the Municipality of Cusco, the end of year celebrations in the city’s Plaza de Armas will only be held until 01:00 a.m. on January 1, 2017. As well, alcoholic beverages will be prohibited.

Iván Samamé Álava, Manager of the City’s Services, said that this is part of a plan to promote the safety of Cusco and visiting tourists who come to the city to spend the holidays during Christmas and New Year.

The activities in the Plaza de Armas will be until 1 in the morning, alcohol consumption will not be allowed. The police and city security officers will patrol the streets for peace, so that there are no incidents, he said.

This plan includes the participation of various public institutions, such as the National Police, Public Ministry, Ministry of Health, Citizen Security, among others.

Lastly, Iván Samamé said that in order to avoid vehicular traffic through the city center, a contingency plan will be drawn up with the Traffic Police and the pertinent city authorities.
City officials stated celebrations around the city center will run no longer than 1:00 a.m.
