These languages are grouped into 19 linguistic families and are a means of communication of 55 indigenous or native groups.
“The original languages are all those languages that were used prior to the dissemination of Spanish and that are preserved and used within the national territory”, according to an article by Andina.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Education, there are currently 40 languages with official alphabets, two in the process of standardization (Nanti and Asheninka) and six in the process of documentation (Iñapari, Chamicuro, Omagua, Muniche, Resígaro, Taushiro).
