“I always dreamed of being a soldier,” said Omero Puancha Chijiap, according to _El Peruano_ daily gazette.
Puancha Chijiap is the first Awajun native to join the Peruvian Air Force, after leaving his home in the Amazonas at the age of 18 to pursue his dream in the Peruvian capital.
He began voluntary military service in 2010 and completed two years of initial training, with marked excellence, says _El Peruano_.

Since entering military school for non-commissioned officers in December, he will eventually begin his military career in 2017.
“I’m so close to completing my goal, I have it in my hand and I can not let it go,” said the Awajun native, according to _El Peruano_.
“I feel proud of my village… There they taught me to be disciplined and my vocation to the service I have conserved it since I was a child.”
After completing voluntary military service in the FAP, he studied in the Center for Training and Peace Operations (2014). In 2015, he took the Special Defense and Operations Course in the Vitor Command School.
“Peru gave me everything, and for Peru I am willing to do whatever it requires,” said Puancha Chiji
