On Wednesday, Congressman Kenji Fujimori responded to comments made by President Ollanta Humala regarding a pardon for his father, former President Alberto Fujimori.

"I’m very upset and uncomfortable by that offensive comment made by President Ollanta Humala,” Congressman Fujimori was quoted as saying by Peru21.

Fujimori’s comments come a day after President Humala questioned the Fujimori family for not formally requesting a pardon for the former president.

>“What is at stake is a person’s life, it’s not a job application," the president said, according to RPP. >"I don’t understand the behavior of Mr. Fujimori’s family."

The congressman said he “regretted and rejected” Humala’s comments, and said they showed a “lack of sensitivity.”

“We expected a sign of generosity,” Fujimori said. “The president or the first lady could have had to courtesy to call and ask about my father.”

The congressman also countered the president’s claims, and said it was not necessary for them to request a pardon, in order for him to grant one, Peru21 reported.

Last Wednesday ex-President Fujimori was rushed to San Felipe Clinic after the former president experienced complications from his latest surgery.

Fujimori’s doctor, Congressman Alejandro Aguinaga, said Fujimori has seen a decline in his health after this latest – and fourth – intervention over his mouth ulcers.
