This is the first cable system in Peru, taking tourists from the bottom to the top of the Kuelap fortress in just 20 minutes.
The 4km-long, 670m-high cable car system expects to transport 75,000 tourists this year. Consorcio Telecabinas Kuelap, composed of ICCGSA Peru and the French company Poma, was awarded the 20-year concession in 2014 and began building the system in August 2015. The estimated investment for this transport system was around US$ 21 million.
The first station in the Kuelap cable car ride is only 40 minutes away from Chachapoyas. Twenty six cable cars will be available to tourists, each one with a capacity to fit 8 passengers. The cable cars are well equipped and have solar panels and wind sensors.
How much will a ride on the cable car cost? There is a probationary period at the moment and the local population can access this service for free. After this time period finishes, the tickets will cost S/ 20.
