A fault at one of the city’s electrical substations left several parts of Surco and La Molina without power on Friday evening.

According to El Comercio, the blackout occurred just after 6:00 p.m., and mainly affected neighborhoods in proximity to the Jockey Plaza shopping center.

Hans Berger, a spokesperson for the Luz del Sur utility company, said the blackout occurred due to a malfunction at a substation located in Monterrico.

The blackout disabled traffic lights and caused major traffic delays in the area, particularly on El Derby Ave, La Encalada Ave, and parts of Javier Prado.

According to local radio RPP, by 7:30 p.m., power had been restored to 95 percent of homes in the area.
