Lima to see 50 km/h winds this week, Senamhi warns

On Monday, Senamhi, the country’s national weather service, warned that moderate winds this week, with gusts moving at over 50 kilometers per hour, in the costal regions of Lima and Ica, El Comercio reported.

Martin Bonshoms, a meteorologist at Senamhi, said the beaches of Lima, he valleys of Ica, and city of Pisco, and Paracas, would be most affected by the winds, the daily said.

"The maximum level of intensity is usually between 2 and 3 p.m. in Ica. In the case of Lima, the winds will begin to be more intense after 6 pm," he said.

Meanwhile the country’s national civil defense institute recommended the coastal populations to reinforce any structure made from light materials, and to ensure windowpanes were properly fastened.

Local residents, the agency said, should also be careful of utility poles, or other large structures which could be tumbled over by strong winds.

The civil defense institute also urged local authorities to fully operate their emergency centers, in order to provide adequate response, if an accident were to occur.
