A fire broke out in a Lima warehouse early Wednesday morning, leaving several streets closed, and losses of up to $1 million.
According to Alberto Marticorena, Lima Centro fire chief, the fire broke out at around 4:00 at the Azalia shoe factory’s warehouse, located on block 22 of Arica Ave.
Around 12 fire trucks arrived on the scene shortly after, and were able to contain the blaze after an hour and a half, Peru21 reported.
Aldo Miranda, head of the Lima region Police department, said around 700 police officials were providing security in the area, and had evacuated residents from the area.
According to local media the fire did not affect adjoining properties, and no injuries were reported.
Fire chief Marticorena said it was up to the insurance company to determine cause of the fire, Peru21 reported.
An unnamed company representative told the newspaper the fire had caused up to $1 million in losses for the shoe firm.
