Magnitude-5.0 quake jolts Peru’s northeast jungle

 An earthquake with a 5.0 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Peru’s northeastern jungle region on Tuesday night, Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported.

The temblor struck at 22:09 (03:09 GMT) and was felt in Loreto, Amazonas and San Martin, according to local media.

The quake’s epicenter was at 92 kilometers (57.1 miles) northeast of Yurimaguas, capital of the Alto Amazonas province, with a depth of 150 kilometers (93.2 miles), Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) said.

No damage or injuries have been reported so far from the quake.

Peru is in the "Pacific Ring of Fire," which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity.
