Over ten years ago, Matthieu Ricard stepped onto the TED stage, draped in his red cloak, to give the audience a glimpse into his journey towards well-being and balance.

Unlike some of his fellow Frenchmen who critiqued his publications were overly concerned with happiness, Ricard believes that if happiness is something that is going to determine the quality of every instant of our life, then we better know what it is .
