In Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Amazonas and San Martin there are 2500 coffee producers, 30 percent of them are women and they have organized themselves to sell their product.
A group of 750 women work producing ecological coffee for USA and Canada. They have struggled for years to be able to sell their coffee. The manager of Proassa, Isabel Uriarte, says that in the beginning, men would not allowed them to participate in the meetings and nowadyas they even help them cooking in the business meetings.
These group of women have met people who want to help them and pay $141 per 100 pounds, $20 more than in the New York stock exchange. Happily, people like Garth Smith and his wife are aware of these women’s efforts and are willing to help.l
