Peru’s Hass Avocado to enter US markets

Peruvian Hass avocados will be allowed to enter US market since February, reported Peru’s Agriculture Minister Adolfo de Cordova.

"Peruvian Hass avocados will enter one of the largest markets in the world," said the official in a press release, remarking that this is one of the most awaited points of the bilateral FTA, since it came into effect in February 2009.

"This will expand our market, benefiting thousands of producers," he said. Peru has approximately 7,000 hectares planted with avocado, and could export 19,000 tons annually to the US, which is the largest market for this fruit.

The ceremony to announce this news will take place today at the Ministry, with the presene of President Alan Garcia, Edward M. Avalos, representative from de US embassy, and Enrique Camet, head of ProHass.
