Peru’s President Alan Garcia announced this morning the decision of Peru to donate 10 million dollars to rebuild schools and water distribution systems affected by the earthquake that struck Haiti on 12 January 2010.
Speaking at the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) meeting, Garcia said that if all countries make similar contributions, a fund of about $100 million could be created to finance the reconstruction of this nation.
He also pointed out that Peru will embark army engineer battalions for the reconstruction of roads.
Peruvian leader noted that if all Unasur member states adopt this measure, the reconstruction of road infrastructure would be accelerated.
Peru will also adopt Ecuador’s proposal of eliminating taxes and tariffs on products imported from Haiti, as a way to revitalize the economy of this nation.
