Peru’s Claudio Pizarro is second at the all-time goalscoring record at European competitions

After the three goals scored at the game against Twente from Holland at Euroligue action, Peruvian Claudio Pizarro is the second South American at the overall goalscoring table at European competitions, only second to legendary Alfredo Di Stéfano, according to the Record Sport Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF).

Pizarro has 40 goals in 90 games at Champions League and UEFA Cup since 1999 when he arrived to Werder Bremen.

Now, Pizarro is above Hernan Crespo and Rivaldo (39 goals each one) in the ranking, and below Alfredo Di Stéfano, the all time leading scorer with 49.

He played 59 games at Champions League with 17 goals, and 30 games at UEFA Cup or Europe League with 23 goals, with Bremen, Chelsea and Bayern Münich.

He didn’t scored at the Super Cup final against Shakhtar Donetsk in 2009 nor when he played at Chelsea.
