Some 500 Peruvian citizens have been affected by the 8.8 earthquake that hit Chile last Saturday. Most of them are homeless now, and sleeping in the streets, due to the severe structural damage that the buildings where they live have suffered.
The figures were confirmed by Peru’s Chancellor, José Antonio García Belaunde, who also said that his office “will contribute with all the necessary resources” to help those citizens who want to return to Peru.
“If they want to come back to our country, we will help. In that case, our citizens must get in touch with the Peruvian Consul in Chile, Juan Prieto," said Garcia Belaunde to CPN Radio.
