Coliform bacteria contaminates the south


The absence of potable water and sewage system in diverse towns of the south has resulted in serious consequences to the ecosystem. The council of Lurin yesterday, declared a sanitary emergency in divers public swimming pools and beaches of Suspiros, Barcos, La Barca and Hawai.
Settlers use silos and throw sewage onto the streets which have contaminated the subsoil’s, this has resulted in the infestation of the coliform bacteria, which if not treated could spread to the districts of Los Pulpos and Arica.
The council of Lurin has a proposal of S/.382.000 that will be spent on building a sewage systems in the above mentioned towns, which would be ready by May, until then they have asked Sedapal to abstain from making anymore connections, for fear of contamination.
