Peru's Villa Rica Coffee to become a denomination of originPeru’s Villa Rica Coffee will soon become a copyrighted name to designate its location of production, the town of Oxapampa, in the region of Pasco.

The state agency for the defense of free competition and intellectual property, Indecopi, will issue the copyright to Villa Rica Coffee on Friday, Aug. 27, reports El Comercio.

This protection, called denomination of origin in Peru, is a tool that identifies products with special characteristics due to the area of production or to the elaboration procedures.

“Café Villa Rica” will be the fifth denomination of origin recognized in Peru: the previous ones are pisco, maíz blanco gigante del cusco (giant white corn from Cusco), chulucanas and pallar de Ica (beans from Ica).
